    Ahvenisto 1.0 Empty Ahvenisto 1.0

Post by René Lorig Mon Jan 10, 2011 7:16 pm

Hey guys, I've been working on the Ahvenisto Race Circuit in the last weeks and now here it is. It's a conversion and also my first try, so don't expect much here, it's quality is moderate to bad.
I'm sorry for the non-existing shadows, but I just don't understand how to add them. Also the track is very hard on the FPS, and I guess online racing can only be possible in the 500 and with not more than 10 drivers. Have fun on this small but challenging track.

    Credits:
Thanks to Kimmo Kokkonen for converting this track to GTR² and GTL, from GPL (made by Sergio Loro, Jussi Kaskia, Robert Zeugin, Ginetto) and giving permission to convert it. And also thanks to Slider916 for giving permission to include his and cammel's rFactor work.

Thanks to the guys at netkarproseries.de, Frank Rogge, Julian Borchers, Ralf Gilles and Axel Herschel for testing the track and giving advices.

Thanks to Fulvio "Gek" Genova and Andrea Lojelo from Radiator Springs Racing for supporting, helping and optimizing the track for me.

Thanks to Marius Carey, Albert McSaltens and the rest of the community at Radiator Springs Racing for writing tutorials, answering questions and helping out.

Looks v.nice René, a good flow with undulations. As you say not brilliant FPS wise but it looks fun Smile

EDIT: Only FPS issues at the start of the lap.

The trees are very nice and it's nice to see guys making tracks that aren't so flat. Ahvenisto 1.0 659651 Well done.

It's a harsh looking track. No fps issues here. Just few hard bumps, but overall those big elevation changes were pretty smooth. The blind crest after paddock is hard with KS2. It likes to jump there. Depends on aero balance you will do a front or a back flip. Shocked

Hope someone like iRacing laser scans it before they will close it. It's too close to residential area and noise regulations there are very strict. I was there last time few years ago and it's amazing roller coaster. No wonder some people call it mini Nordschleife.

Thanks Rene. I've been trying to convert tracks too (never did it before) but unfortunately my machine appears to lack some juice. I was trying to learn with a small track from rFactor as a personal project (Taruma), following this thread (http://forum.radiators-champ.com/t474-simple-conversion-thread) but everytime I tried to open it in 3DMax it crashed.

I'm running Win7 32bit, 4Gb RAM (only 3 usable), ATI HD5850 1Gb, Q6600@3Ghz. I guess I need a more powerful machine in order to be able to convert tracks...

That's unlikely to be a performance issue, if the track won't import in max, something might have gone from in the conversion process. Did you try Gerards method (that's good for small(er) rF tracks)? When detaching you'll find out how good your computer's Smile My computer's has the same amount of RAM but is worse in every other area, and I rarely have an issue when importing into max, only when detaching.

Hmmm, tried with both methods, yes. Will reinstall everything and try with another small rF track. I was pretty sure that this was some kind of limitation on my computer. I was running the 3D 2011 trial version... should I try with the 2010? I was reading other posts and saw that the 2010 version seems to be the one used around.

2010 & 2011 are similar so it shouldn't be an issue. In fact Gerard uses 2011. You don't need to re-install, it's just that some tracks won't convert for some reason (maybe someone with a bit more knowledge knows why).

Henrizio, I think the conversion isn't very accurate, also because it's old (GPL, only updated to 2008 layout and new textures). I would love to have it laserscanned and so detailed like in your picture.

Yay! With 3D Max 2010 I've managed to load the track successfully, no more crashes. Now I just have to learn 3D Max and everything else Smile, but it's a (good) start. I hope to be converting tracks soon and help the community to grow the places available to netkar racing. Thanks for the tips.

Also would it be ok for me to post your track on another nKPro site, I will make sure the credits are posted in full.

I just downloaded this track and the timing seems to be a bit messed up. Not a big deal to me but I just thought I'd mention it.

Nice! I have few friends in finland and they are saying that track will not be closed. They are starting to develop the track to get maybe bigger races in there.
