mi sembra un po folle come metodo 
con un piano ed una texture con canale alpha
si ottiene lo stesso risultato, vedi mucca:
Qualcuno invece mi spiega come funzionano le ombre in game ?
ad esempio, non riesco proprio a far prendere le ombre all'erba
e non riesco nemmeno a farle proierttare dagli oggetti di scena
con un piano ed una texture con canale alpha

Shadows are not supported by the engine itself. The only shadow that is projected is the car shadow.
You can select the option "cast shadow" on each object you want to cast the shadow of your car.
The only way to create a shadow of a object in the scene is to build manually the projected shadow object.
One more method, that we used for Monza, is to generate a texture with alpha channel based on shadows projected by the 3d objects in a rendered scene in max.

Purtroppo è l'unico sistema per far "sentire" l'ombra alla macchina.
